2 J&K NCC Girls Battalion organises plug run


UDHAMPUR: A unique first-of-its-kind initiative, the Plug Run 2021 aimed to combat the increasing threat from plastic pollution by bringing together the most powerful stakeholders in environmental conservation citizens themselves organised by 2nd J&K NCC Girls Battalion.
The two renowned colleges of the Udhampur district, namely, Government College for Women and Government Degree College participated in this Plug Run which involved picking up plastic waste while jogging through an established route starting from Tushar Mahajan Chowk to Kargil Shardhanjali Park.
The three kilometer run aimed to bring a sense of ownership and cleanliness in the area covered. A total of four teams with 25 cadets each started from Tushar Morh and Supply Morh holding banners and placards with messages and slogans on the themes ‘Freedom Struggle’ and ‘Say No to Plastic’.
The plugging began with the flag off at Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Chowk by Col SS Kohli, Commandant, Station Headquarter, Udhampur while at the culminating point, the cadets performed a small Nukkad Natak, sang patriotic songs, had talks on the given themes.
This run was held on 13 April 2021 to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Utsav’.
“It is in the power of community that true transformation lies. Under the aegis of Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, we hope to use plugging as a community activity that combines inherent health benefits with a larger purpose of mobilising the community for the greater good,” said Col Satvinder Singh, Commanding Officer, 2nd J&K NCC Girls Battalion.
The entire event was supervised by the Associate NCC Officers of the college Lt (Dr) Kamal Deep Kaur from GCW Udhampur and Capt Shivani Sharma from GDC Udhampur.
The principals and the administrative department appreciated the efforts of the cadets and encouraged them to participate in such activities frequently to act as the torch bearers for the citizens of the country.
