STATE TIMES NEWSKathua/CHENANI: Acting tough against bovine smugglers, police on Thursday rescued 15 bovines and arrested a smuggler. As per details, a police team led by Insp Vijay Kumar, SHO Kathua under supervision of DySP Headquarters Shammi Kumar, while on patrolling duty near Berrian Pattan, Kathua noticed that movement of some unknown persons along with bovines. On seeing Police Party from a distance, the accused managed to flee and left behind 4 bovines, which were presumably being smuggled. Accordingly FIR No 261/2021 under section 188 of IPC Act has been registered in Police Station Kathua and further investigation has been started. Meanwhile, a party from Police Station Chenani led by Insp Charanjeet Singh SHO Chenani under supervision of Anwaar-ul-Haq Addl. SP Udhampur and Ahmad Shaafi SDPO Chenani laid a Naka at Zero Point Chenani for checking of vehicles. During Naka checking, police intercepted a truck (JK02AH 3375), which was being used by smugglers for illegal transportation of bovines to Kashmir, without any valid permission. All 11 bovines were rescued and a bovine smuggler namely Fateh Hussain, son of Meraj Din, resident of Jammu was arrested on the spot. Case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Chenani and further investigation is underway.
