14 drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir valley; haul of contraband substances recovered

SRINAGAR: Acting tough against drug dealings, Police in a series of actions across Kashmir valley arrested 14 drug peddlers and recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, officers at a checkpoint established at Kunzar market intercepted a person identified as Reyaz Ah Mir, resident of Beewa Kunzar. During checking, officers were able to recover 700 gm Charas from his possession. He was arrested and shifted to Police Station Kunzer where he remained under custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR number 11/2021 under relevant section of law was registered at Police Station Kunzer and further investigation has been taken up.
Similarly in Kulgam, officers at a checkpoint established at Nipora crossing intercepted a vehicle (Chevrolet Aveo LS Car) bearing registration number JK01K-8909 with two persons onboard, who were identified as Aarif Ahmad Ganie and Muzaffar Ahmad Ganie, both residents of Hassanpora Bagh, Bijebhara. During checking, officers were able to recover 550 gm Charas from their possession. They were arrested on the spot and shifted to Police Station where they remained under custody. The vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized. A case vide FIR no. 32/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in this regard.
In another action, officers from Police Station DH Pora while patrolling, intercepted three persons identified as Abdul Majeed Malik, resident of Nagam DH Pora; Zeeshan Ahmad Malik, resident of Khull and Tawseef Ahmad Naik, resident of Chimmer. During checking, officers were able to recover 90 gm Charas from their possession. They were arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remained under custody. A case vide FIR no. 16/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station DH Pora and investigation has been initiated.
In Sopore, Police has arrested eight notorious drug peddlers involved in smuggling/supplying drugs to local youth and recovered huge quantity of psychotropic substances from their possession. They were identified as Umar Farooq Sheikh, resident of Seloo; Mohammad Rafeeq Ganie, resident of Ganie Mohalla Dangerpora; Sheikh Muzaffar Qadir, Ab Rashid Sheikh, Muhammad Asif Naikoo and Ishfaq Ahmad Khaja, all residents of Seloo, Rameez Ahmad Mir, resident of Aadipora and Basit Hassan Mir, resident of Changa Mohalla Arampora. They were shifted to Police Station Sopore where they remained under custody. Cases vide FIR numbers 36/2021, 41/2021, 43/2021, 44/2021 and 45/2021 under relevant sections have been registered in Police Station Sopore and investigations have been initiated.
