13 gamblers arrested, stake money recovered

SAMBA/SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday arrested 13 gamblers and recovered stake money from their possession.
Acting on specific information regarding gambling, a team of Police Statoin Samba raided a gambling spot near Supwal and arrested three gamblers namely Rakesh Kumar, son of Girdhari Lal, resident of W. No. 13 Vijaypur; Mohd Parvez, son of Feroz Din, resident of Rajinderpura, Samba and Sandeep Singh, son of Thoru Ram Chib, resident of Satwari, Jammu along with stake money amounting to Rs 47,500 and 4 sets of playing cards. Consequently, all gamblers were booked under section 13 of Gambling Act at Police Station Samba.
In another incident, a party from Police Station Bari Brahmana while performing patrolling duty in Birpur area, caught four persons red-handed while gambling. The accused have been identified as Kewak Krishan, son of Chiru Ram; Taqdir Singh, son of Vijay Singh; Ravi Kumar, son of Mani Ram and Rohit Rana, son of Rakesh Kumar, all residents of Birpur, Bari Brahmana. They were arrested along with stake money amounting to Rs. 3000 and a set of playing cards. All the gamblers were booked under section 13 of Gambling Act at Police Station Bari Brahmana.
Meanwhile, a joint Police party from Police Post Nowgam and Police Station Sumbal raided a gambling site in Check Ganastan following an input about gambling activities and apprehended six gamblers. They were identified as Mohd Maqbool Naikoo, Syed Reyaz Shah, Imtiyaz Hussain Ganaie, Mohammad Qasim Dar, all residents of Nowgam Sumbal, Mohammad Shafi Bhat resident of Zaripora Tergam and Mohammad Haneef Dar, residents of Gund Khalil Trigam.
Officers have also seized playing cards and stake money amounting to Rs 7600 from gamblers. They were arrested and shifted to Police Station Sumbal where they remained under custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 162/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sumbal and investigation has been initiated.
