120 bottles meant for ‘Sale in Punjab’ seized; three smugglers flee


Liquor smuggling bid foiled in Kathua

KATHUA: In a major breakthrough in its drive against the liquor smuggling, the Kathua Police on Tuesday seized a huge consignment of ‘Sale in Punjab’ liquor from Maggar Khad area of Kathua Police Station. As per the details, acting on reliable information regarding the trade of smuggled liquor by three unknown persons from Punjab towards J&K UT via Maggar Khad area, a party led by Inspector Yash Paul Sharma In-Charge Police Post Industrial Estate Kathua under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kathua Shammi Kumar and SSP Kathua R C Kotwal rushed to the spot and laid a Naka at Jagatpur Palai, Kathua. On seeing police party, the smugglers managed to flee away from the spot while leaving behind huge consignment of smuggled liquor.
During checking, 10 cartons of liquor, each containing 12 bottles of Mc Dowell’s Whisky of 750ml each making a total of 120 bottles were recovered.
Meanwhile all the recovered consignment of smuggled liquor was seized. FIR No 273/2021 under section 48(a)/50 of Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Kathua and further investigation is underway.
