STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU/SRINAGAR: Continuing efforts to eradicate menace of drugs from society, Police on Friday arrested 12 drug peddlers in Jammu and Srinagar Divisions and recovered contraband substance from their possession.As per details, a team of Police Station Bahu Fort led by SHO Insp Deepak Pathania assisted by Sl Mohd Iqbal while performing Naka duty near JDA parking ground, Rail Head complex rounded-up two suspects namely Irshad Ahmed, son of Ghulam Ahmed, resident of Damhal Hanjipura, Kulgam and Tariq Ahmed, son of Abdul Rehman, resident of Damhal Hanjipura, Kulgam, who tried to run away on seeing police. On search 55 gm heroin (Chitta) was recovered from them. The duo was arrested and a case vide FIR No. 120/21 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Bahu Fort. The overall arrests and recovery were made by SDPO City East Bikram Kumar.Meanwhile, a team headed by SHO Thannamandi, Insp Fareed Ahmed during routine patrolling at Thannamandi Shahdra road intercepted a car (JK11D 4352). On search, about 10 gm of heroin like substance and Rs 13,000 cash was recovered from possession of two persons in the vehicle, who were identified as Azmat Shah, son of Nazir Hussain, resident of Kotedhara, Rajouri and Imtiaz Ahmed, son of Mohammad Hussain, resident of Sialsui, Kalakote. A case vide FIR 59/2021 under Sections 8/21/22/60 of NDPS Act was registered at Thannamandi Police Station.In another instance, SHO Khour alongwith police party while conducting special Naka at Prangla Khad, saw two persons coming from Bakore and tried to flee but police caught them. On search, 8 Challis of Charas like substance were recovered from them. On questioning they disclosed their name as Rohit Singh alias Johni, son of Jagdesh Singh, resident of Naiwala Camp Tehsil Akhnoor and Rohit Samotra, son of Pritam Lal Sharma, resident of Bhalwal Brahmana. The duo was arrested and a case vide FIR No.23/2021 under Sections 8/20 of NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Khour.At Udhampur, a party of Police Station Udhampur led by Insp Chanchal Singh SHO Udhampur under supervision of Sahil Mahajan DySP Hqrs laid a surprise Naka for checking of vehicles at Omara Morh, Udhampur. During checking, police stopped a vehicle (JK14 A 1688), which was on its way towards Udhampur town, for checking. During search of vehicle, 20 gm heroin like substance was recovered from two narcotic smugglers namely Shakil Ahmed, son of Mohd Rashid, resident of Kheri, Udhampur and Hamid Ali alias Medu, son of Chattu, resident of Thard, Udhampur. The duo was arrested and a case vide FIR No. 135/2021 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Udhampur.Meanwhile, officers at a checkpoint established at Shalteng Parimpora signaled three persons to stop. However, one among them fled from spot while two persons identified as Firdous Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh and Adil Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Shalteng, Parimpora were apprehended. On checking, 250 grams heroin was recovered from their possession. On questioning, the duo revealed the identification of the third person as their associate namely Ghulam Nabi Dar, son of Habib-ul-lah Dar, resident of Parimpora Srinagar. Efforts are on to nab the accused person. Accordingly, a case FIR vide number 67/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Parimpora and investigation has been initiated.While, officers from Police Station Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Pethbugah Dialgham intercepted a person identified as Altaf Ahmad Ganie, son of Gul Mohammad Ganie, resident of Shichen Dialgam. During checking, officers were able to recover 120 tablets of Alprsafe, 88 capsules of Proxwel and 45 tablets of Anxit from his possession. In another action, police party from Police Station Anantnag during routine checking at KP road, Anantnag intercepted a person identified as Manzoor Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan, resident of Gopalpora Mattan. During checking, officers were able to recover 18 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 9 bottles of Welcyrex and cash amounting to Rs 5,500 were recovered from his possession. Both the accused persons were arrested and shifted to police station, where they remained in custody. Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 93/2021 and 94/2021 respectively under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Anantnag and further investigation has been initiated.
