12 arrested for illicit distillation, haul of Desi liquor seized



JAMMU: Continuing its drive against menace of illicit trade of liquor, Police on Friday arrested 12 bootleggers and recovered haul of illicit liquor from their possession.
As per details, a special drive against bootlegging was launched by Gharota Police under SHO Khayati Maan Khajuria in which 5 bootleggers were arrested in separate incidents which include Ram Din, son of Chouhan Din, resident of Chattisgarh at present Thathar; Kavi Ras, son of Mohan Lal, resident of Dharam Khoo; Vijay Singh, son of Balu Singh, residnet of Lower Thathar; Mithun Kumar, son of Sardari Lal, resident of Nardi Bala and Jay Lal, son of Bansi Lal, resident of Chhattisgarh at present BBK Brick Kiln. 6 litres of illicit liquor and 15 litres Lahan including a working still and utensils were seized from their possession. A car (JK02BF3085) and scooty (JK02 CL/5041) were also seized. FIR No. 40/2021 under Sections 48a of Excise Act 188 /269 of IPC and 51 of DM Act; 41/2021 under sections 48(a)(e) Excise Act and 42/2021, under sections 48(A) Excise Act 188 /269 of IPC, 51 of DM Act were registered at Police Station Gharota. The accused were involved in trade of illicit liquor since long. SDPO Akhnoor Varun Jandial has appealed to public to share information regarding illicit distillation with Police so that action against defaulters can be taken under relevant provisions of law.
Meanwhile, in an act of alertness and prompt action, dedicated team from Police Station Miran Sahib led by SHO Insp Sultan Mirza, while on patrolling duty near Kotli Miyan Fateh area, rounded up two suspects who were identified as Satpal Singh, son of Jaswant Singh, resident of Chatha Farm and Bua Ditta, son of Swarn Lal, resident of Chatha Pind. During search, 22 litres of illicit liquor was recovered from them. FIR vide no. 54/2021 under section 48-E Excise Act was registered at Police Station Miran Sahib and accused were arrested.
In another action, acting swiftly on an input received through reliable sources, a team from Police Station Kana Chak led by SHO Insp Vishav Partap Singh rounded up four suspects namely Leela Dhar, son of Tikam Dass, resident of Choria Tehsil and District Janjgir Champa (Chhattisgarh) at present Kangrail; Sanjay Kumar Sahu, son of Ganpat Lal Sahu, resident of Bhagoti Tehsil Kharska District Rai garh (Chhattisgarh) at present Kangrail; Veer Singh, son of Bait Ram, resident of Bhagoti Tehsil Khasia District Janjgir Champa (Chhattisgarh) at present Kangrail and Rattan Lal, son of Janak Ram Sonwani, resident of Akaska Tehsil Sakti District Janjgir Champa (Chhattisgarh) at present Kangrail, while they were making illicit liquor in a Brick Kiln at Kangrail. During search, 80 ltrs Lahan and 750 ml illicit liquor was recovered from their possession. All the accused were arrested and FIR vide No. 69/2021 under Section 48(E) of Excise Act was registered against them at Police Station Kana Chak.
Meanwhile, acting on reliable information regarding sale of illicit liquor in area, a party from Police Station Ghagwal headed by SHO Ghagwal Insp Rakesh Sharma rushed to the spot and arrested a person namely Pawan Kumar, son of Mohan Dass, resident of Chan Matloni, Ghagwal who was selling illicit liquor to general public at exorbitant rates to gain illegitimate profit. A total of 7 bottles (750ml each) of Punjab made RC Whisky and approximately 5 litres of Desi illicit liquor were recovered from their possession. The accused was arrested and FIR vide No. 110 /2021 under Sections 188/269/270 of IPC and 48(A)/ 50 of Excise Act was registered at Police Station Ghagwal.
